SAN SEBASTIAN NEW UNDERGROUND METRO ACCESS DESIGN

Concept Design. A subway entrance, is the continuity of the network that exists underground. In the same way that passengers are driven through underground paths to the outside, our design proposed to channel the air stream on its way to the atmosphere. This air stream is produced naturally by thermodynamic effects inside the subway net due to different air pressure levels between the street and the underground tunnels. The proposal wants to profit from its internal energy. The proposal includes a low solid protecting wall that emerges from the ground. Above this, an entirely transparent glazing covers the access, keeping passengers dry on Basque rainy days and offering great views of San Sebastian city. The solid base wall includes also an additional element: a transparent vertical totem cylinder, which channels the air flow coming from the underground and absorbs its energy with a small wind turbine to generate electricity. This element is also a landmark that shows the location of each subway access. Scope: Concept Design.
